So...five years ago I got married to my amazing wife and mother of my 2 unbelievably perfect kids..and to celebrate we went to New York.

After having woken early and slunk out of the house so as not to wake the kids we got to Heathrow on pretty good time. A relatively short flight and 7 hours later we are at Newark airport...though our bags are not. Claire has only the clothes she stood up in and despite the usual platitudes and assurances from BA you pretty much know that your bags will not be joining you for the duration due to their inability to manage their way out of a paper bag. And so it proved to be..

Nonethless we resolved to enjoy the trip despite BAs shortcomings. And of course this provided an opportunity to buy a whole new wardrobe from scratch so Claire was not wholly devastated.

We stayed at the Four Seasons hotel at 58th and Madison and it is just a about the perfect spot if you want to be in the thick of it.

We did everythign you would expect and that we wanted to from looking at Ground Zero (still very sobering), shopping at Bloomingdales (great service), went to Nobu in Tribeca for dinner (truly outstanding), went to the Guggenheim (amazing Spanish painting exhibition), strolled through Central Park (the mechanism for stopping NY turning into Sao Paulo!), did the Tiffany's thing (ouch!), wandered around Greenwich Village and SoHo and bought some great stuff..and so on.

I love New York and have done since I 1st went there 15 years ago. I've been a million times but it's still a place that excites me every time I go. The people are hugely friendly and funny, its just alive and the architecture and skyline of Manhattan are wonders of the world.

We got the redeye back overnight on the Sunday and I headed directly into the office...

Really fantastic weekend, even though we both missed the kids.
