I´m sorry it has taken me so long to post! I´ve been in a bit of a transitional state, but everything is good. I have a family now. My mom is Doña Brenda and I have two sisters, Karla and Natalia, they are both in their early twenties. Karla also has a daughter named Valentina, and she is two and adorable. In the mornings when we are eating breakfast she likes to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in Spanish. My family is amazing, they are so nice to me and my Mom is a great cook, but in case you were wondering it´s true, we have rice and beans at every meal. Usually there is something extra at dinner. It´s an interesting time to be here right now, because the electric company is rationing electricity. My neighborhood doesn´t have power from about 2 until 7 every day. When i come home from my classes we sit out on the porch in the pitch black, and then eat dinner by candlelight. It also has been raining here like crazy. The hurricane isn´t near us, but we are getting the rain. Right now the sound of the rain on the tin roof is deafening, but in a way it is pretty cool. There is thunder and lightening here everyday for a few hours and you start to not even notice it.

Today we had the chance to go to the Asamblea Nacional, which is like Congress in the US. It was neat because we had the chance to talk with a deputada (sort of like a senator) from the ALN party and a deputado from the FSLN (Sandinista Frente). It was neat, and we got to see the hall where they convene.

Everything is going really well and I´m learning a lot, including how to wash my clothes on something called a pila. By the end of everyday my head is aching from thinking so much in Spanish, but I think it´s getting a bit easier. I will try to post again very soon...and for anyone who wants it, I have a cell phone now and you can call anytime. My number is 505-485-9704 the country code is 011. You may have to try it a few different ways, if your phone needs it there is a city code too, which is 2 for managua. I would love any calls!

Mom, Dad, Britt I miss you guys so much and I love you sooooo much!

Sounds like the great experiences keep coming! I don't know what a pila is, but I'm picturing you using an old washboard type thing... quite the funny mental image! Love you, Dad

And you thought you weren't going to have any fun. This trip just gets better each time I read another blog. It sounds pretty darn cool if you ask me. On Wednesday, J-Bird had her first day at school, and apparently had a successful first day. She did arrive at the Vassar-Manhattanville men's soccer game with an entirely new outfit on -- the new brown and white skirt, a brown shirt and styling new brown cowboy boots. She looked sensational! She sat in the "bosses" seat for a bit and then left to go see Kim. J-Bire kept the Futon on her floor until Tuesday night, honoring her Big Sis as long as possible, which I think she thought was lost on her parents. It returned to the spare room on Wednesday. With VC games almost everyday and night, ECM working into the wee hours, the summer has officially ended. Not for Kit, though. It's summer for her everyday -- I am also convinced the dog has ADD. Can't keep focused on anything for more than 5 seconds. The EC family received this amazing load of cookies from the WC family, which were so thoughtful, we were dumbfounded as how to reply. Otherwise, everything in Po-Town is fine ... Oh, J-Bird says her teacher sings a lot ... but not nearly good enough for American Idol. Love ya.
