I should have packed the pants
From Camino di Santiago in Pamplona, Spain on May 23 '06
It was difficult sleeping on the overnight bus to Pamplona. Kate and I got a few hours of sleep. We were dropped off in Pamplona, outside of the CLOSED bus station, a little after 5 a.m. It was FREEZING, and I was in my shorts and fleece. I should have packed the pants. I´m worried about tomorrow night in the mountains. Hopefully the rifugio with the acclaimed comforters will keep me warm enough. Kate and I walked around for about an hour, to try to keep warm. The city was dark and empty. We made it back to the station, which opened up about 15 minutes after we returned there. We walked in, bought our tickets to Pamplona for tonight at 6. We walked into the cafe in the station, which was sweetly warm, and the coffee warmed us more. We left the station, bought some almond and chocolate pastries at another bakery. We wandered trying to find the information center, and ended up at a Piazza near it, to wait for it to open. We found a statue with steps, where we laid down, wrote, and slept as the sun finally came out and showed itself and took care of us with its warmth and comfort. An old gentleman came over and told us we must be cold. I had a newspaper on my lap, and he came over to me, took it off my lap, and unfolded it to use to cover my bare legs to keep them warm. I continue to be impressed by the kindess of the people. WE just walked into this internet cafe. Some young women were at the counter, and they all asked us where we´re from. Kate told them D.C., and the Barista made a comment about Bush, and said that no one walking the Camino likes him. They were all laughing, and we just nodded in understanding and agreement. One of the young girls gave us a name of a place that she said is beautiful and that we have to go to along our way. Kate said she thinks it is on the beach, and that the girl is either from there, or just came from there. ´Bella Ciao´ just came on the radio in the cafe, and Kate and I sung along. Headed to France tomorrow to start the walk.
