The usual route is to travel on the "Tipu Sultan" a liner which carries tourists to lakshadweep. Tipu Sultan has a couple of routes in the late 80's early 90's when I went there we visited Kavratti and kalpeni. or vice versa. we spent a few extra days in Kavratti and caught the same boat abt a week later. there is also one route which goes to minicoy. Travelling to minicoy is more adventurous I guess because it is one of the largest of these islands. However it belongs to the Maldives-type of island.
