Hotels book quickly for October in the NC mountains. If you plan a trip like this, it wouldn't hurt to make your reservations before September 1st.
Since we make this trip every year (or almost), there's not a whole lot to plan besides the hotel. The leaves are supposed to peak in mid-October this year, so I hope we're not too late when we arrive on the 28th.
