Okay, so it's not War & Peace but so many people I've travelled with this year have read it or been reading it that I felt I needed to read it before I heard something that would spoil it. So, before leaving Bucharest, I picked up a nice, new paperback.\r

\r

I had a three flights ahead of me: Bucharest to Zurich, Zurich to Munich and Munich to Tallinn. Plus, I had a long layover in Munich. I would be leaving Bucharest at noon and arriving in Tallinn near midnight. I figured these 500 pages would easily keep me entertained for the duration of the trip.\r

\r

Wrong. I finished the novel somewhere over Poland I think. I had taken several breaks to try to stretch it out because I didn't want to finish before I arrived in Tallinn. But, then, I'd run out of other things to do or look at and I would find myself cracking the book open again. It is a gripping story and a very easy read.\r

\r

I don't want to spoil it for anyone else but I will say that I noticed every chalice and rose I saw in the churches around Tallinn the next couple of days.\r

\r

\r

p.s. I went to exchange The DaVinci Code at a used bookstore in Tallinn and was surprised to hear that the man wasn't really interested in it.\r

\r

'What? This is like the #1 bestseller in the world this year.'\r

\r

'Oh, it's not that. It's just been translated into Estonian so there's less demand for the English version.'\r

\r

Translated into Estonian? I guess you know a book is a hit when it's been translated into Estonian.
