St Malo
From My Europe Trip Overview in St. Malo, France on Oct 26 '06
I took a bus actually from Mont St. Michel over to St. Malo, it was a mere 2.50euros and took just over an hour. I arrived later in the day, checked in to this large hostel for young travellers, it had tennis courts, basketball courts, etc. I had a small bed in a dorm room, which was fine. I decided to walk out to see the walled city at night, as I missed seeing Mont St Michel at night and regretted that, so off i went towards the beach. Wow! i made it just around the corner as the sun was setting! Got a sweet picture, and then walked along this great boardwalk along the ocean, there were people walking on the beach, playing with their dogs, jogging, even one person was swimming! The views were spectacular and it made me forget about the stressful day I had had trying to make plans to get south. I was in Northern France and it was absolutely beautiful and was so happy to be here! It was a solid half hour walk to the Intra-Muro (walled city), and there was a sailing race going on during the day so there were people everywhere. I found a baguette place (surprise surprise) and then walked back to the hostel. When i arrived, there was a knock on my door immediately, and the boys from the front desk said some of them were going to a pub and that <i should come, so we drove back to the intra-muro, to this cute pub whose menu consisted of over 300 beers! Then we headed back, went to the beach and had another drink . These kids were all volunteers at the hostel as they were here to learn french, and were from all over. One from Spain, one from USA, one from Kenya, etc. It was fun to li sten to all the accents, and we were speaking french and english. The next day i again walked back to the intra-muro, but stopped at the train station to try to get a ticket to Barcelona. Again, they seemed to be all booked up - so I eventually settled on a ticket to Tours + which is in the Loire Valley. Actually, this worked out perfect because i thought i was going to have to skip seeing the chateaux in France, and now i wasnøt going to have to! I had an hour to visit St. Malo, so i walked around and around. I stopped at the supermarket, bought some cheese, ham and yes, another baguette, then took a taxi to the train station and made it just in time! Off to tours! the train ride was nice, through the countryside. I only had to transfer twice, and one time had a reserved seat so i had a table to eat at. I arrived in Tours after dark, having called ahead this time for a hostel, was walked to my h ostel by a very nice brother and sister from Vietnam who were living here to learn french, and had a nice sleep!! The next day I would do an organized tour which would enable me to view all the best chateaux in the valley! i was very excited!
sunset on the beach!!
