Hello all!
Pete and I are now in Bali. It is very different from the places we have visited so far. THe first night Pete went to look around and within 5 minutes he was offered transportation, young girl, watches and marajuana. There are endless booths filled with sarongs, watches, hats and wood carvings. You are told by the guide books that bargaining for prices is the norm. You are guided to take their offer and cut in in half. At first it was fun but now it has become a bit of a chore. Things are so inexpensive here it just doesn't make sense for me to haggle over paying 1 dollar rather than 2 dollars.
A typical day in bali is as follows: Wake up around 9...walk to the beach and rent a surfboard for about $2.50...surf for a few hours...lunch...jump in the pool...nap...rise for dinner which consists of great food and drink for less than $3.00.
Today we strayed from the norm as we ventured out to explore the island. We woke around 8 and had to find a taxi. We found a guy who would drive us all day for $30. Our trip found us viewing rice paddies, monkey forests, waterfalls and temples. It was a long hot ride along one of the craziest roadways I have ever been on and now we are very happy to be out of the van and on our own two feet!
More to come soon. Love ya all! JC and Pete
