I set out from Samara at 8.30 am Tue 22nd on the bus (in which I got ripped off - bought my ticket from the ticket office for $6, when I could have bought it on the bus for $3!!). Oh well, I learnt never to use ticket agents again!! The bus dropped me off at a little village 35 KMs from Monteverde, and I was supposed to wait 4.5 hrs to get a bus to Monteverde. I stayed in a restaurant there for a while before getting bored and ended up hitch-hiking to Monteverde with a couple of really cool Costa Rican guys. They dropped me off all the way to where I needed to get, and gave me a beer - what a result!!!

Anyway, I checked into a really cool hostel and after lunch, caught up on some much needed sleep. Monteverde is a really beautiful town (almost like a mountain village) high up in the highlands in Costa Rica. It is really cold and a popular tourist destination due to the forests, reserves, museums etc that it has. It is one of the prettiest towns I have visited so far.

“Great fun!!! Do a canopy tour!!!”

Wed 23rd was a really fun day. I went on the canopy tour over the rainforest in the reserve there. The canopy tour consists of a number of cables suspended really high above the forest, on which you slide with a pulley - great adrenaline rush and views!!! I also did a Tarzan jump in the forest (like a bungee jump but you go feet first all the way, and swing like crazy!!) and went on a tour of the suspended bridges high up above the forest too. Great fun!! Worth the $40.

Thursday 24th - early morning start. Made my way to La Fortuna.
