Finally made it to Cancun airport Saturday night, close to dark which was a bit of a shame as would´ve liked to explore there a bit more. It also happened to be the start of ´Spring Break´ week so the whole of Cancun is filled with young people boozing it up....its like schoolies week x 100!! and the airport was busting at the seams from all the arrivals. Cancun is obscene! There is about a 15-20km stretch of nothing but the biggest hotels I have ever seen in my life...the only thing I can think of that comes close is Las Vegas... but without the casino´s\gambling. You can still see evidence of Hurricane Wilma in many parts of Cancun, with some hotels yet to re-open and dead palm trees sticking out of the ground, but it has mostly recovered pretty well considering that wasn't so long ago. Arrived at the hotel with only 10 minutes to spare before group introduction,. It is a really great group of people. The tour guide Terry is a French Canadian, then there is also a shadow guide Tom, who is English and tagging along as part of his guide training. Both guides are awesome, and very easy to get along with. Then we have Bill the Texan, Brin and Anthony a young, newly married couple, also from England. Keith who is Irish, and Alvardo who is originally from El Salvador but has lived in the States since the civil war in the late 70´s, early 80´s. Then there is the mysterious Hanna and Anna who are yet to arrive, and whom we have had no word from as yet. Not sure what has happened to them. Thanks to the make up of the group I am the only single girl so have managed to get myself a single room the whole trip, where as the boys have to share...nice! The guys take us to an authentic Mexican Restaurant where they have people to serenade you while you eat, not to mention some really good food! In fact all the food thus far in Mexico has been amazing! Really, really, really tasty. I actually tried cactus tonight! Marinated Cactus...and I really liked it!
