We were looking for a place to get away to over 4th of July weekend, and found some cheap tickets to Kerry county, in Ireland on Ryan Air.  We wanted to stay in Killarney, but there was a festival going on and everything was booked up, so we went further south to Kenmare.  We spent the first day just hiking around Killarney National park, (it rained most of the time) and saw a waterfall and and old Abbey.  The road from Killarney to Kenmare was probably one of the thinnest, curviest mountain roads I have ever seen and was pretty scary.  We had to pull over on the non-existant shoulder everytime a tour bus came by.  We checked into our B&B in Kenmare that night which overlooked Kenmare Bay, and the owner said that the following day he would take us to one of the hill-walking trails.  I bought a rain jacket in town, since I had not brought one along.  Then next day we managed to pull off a 10km hike (it rained most of the time) without getting too lost.  Mostly we saw a lot of sheep...and chased some, a couple of stone circles, and we decided that Ireland was one giant sponge.  I recommend, good water resistant hiking boots and solid rain gear to anyone making the trip.  We recovered that evening at the Sailor's Bar with some Guinness, a barbeque and some live Irish music (including sing-alongs).  It rained most of the time, but we did see a rainbow over Kenmare Bay while listening to the "Rose of Tralee".  Our last day in Kerry County brought us to Tralee to check out the famous roses, and believe it or not the sun was shining.
