Today, after a long orientation for our trip to the Yunnan province next week (8 hours), We got a chance to go to a local bar and see the MoSuo people, a chinese minority group, perform.  They have a a very tribal like dance and absolutly beautiful singing voices.  Their ethnic group is particularly interesting because it is one of the few matriarchial societies left on earth today.  The MoSuo people have no concept of father or husband, when a woman finds a man she likes, she gives him a special belt, and this gives him visiting rights during the night, however he must be gone by the morning.  Once the child is born, the real father has no connection with the child, it is raised by the mother and her brother(s).  So you are actually raised by your mother and your uncle, not your father (most MoSuo have no idea who thier father is).  After the MoSuo finnished their dance, they invited us onto the stage to join them in their dance, I was particularly hopeless at this, but i gave it a shot and had alot of fun.  Will post again in a few days.
