It's FRIDAY! But I've never had a Friday feeling like this! It's my last day in work as a "web content production officer". After today, there is no more 9-5. No more office. And I was about to say, no more "web content" to produce, but here I am blogging about the happy fact !
So we have the bank holiday weekend and then on Wednesday (yes, not 5 weeks on Wednesday, just plainly and simply .... WEDNESDAY) we're FINALLY beginning our world trip.
The prospect of not returning to the grey UK gladdens my heart like photos of kittens.

Vic and I first started talking about this just over a year ago. We were dangerously close to settling down in Cardiff with a huge mortgage over our heads and suddenly it occured to us that this was possibly the most unimaginative prospect either of us had ever dreamed up.
Since then we haven't looked back. We've got our heads down, saved some pennies, and counted down the months, weeks, and days.
It occured to me that it would be nice to write a little something before we actually go - a preface if you will. So what better pastime to while away my final few office hours than to try and do just that .... It does mean I have to do my best to ignore my young colleague, John, disturbing me by asking "How's the blog going?", ignore a few final work-related emails that I'm going to delete anyway, and try and start getting into this errr blog...

Going travelling, indefinitely, has been my dream since I was 16.... please take note, this is NOT a "career break", this is not a "1 year round-the-world ticket" - this is just packing up and leaving on a one-way ticket to Delhi and seeing where we end up. Vic has been addicted to the idea of escaping Britain since working in France a few years back and I've had the travel bug since spending 3 months in Zimbabwe when I was 18...
We don't like Britain. We don't like it at all. Overcrowded chav-island. But this trip isn't about escaping Britain. It's about embracing the big wide world.
That said, the prospect of not returning to the grey UK gladdens my heart like photos of kittens.
