Dumb and Dumber

You would have thought that by now we’d have got to grips with the various time zones that we have travelled through wouldn’t you? It has just dawned on us today, after FOUR days in Queensland, that we should have put our watches back by an hour several days ago when we left Sydney and crossed the New South Wales/Queensland border! All the clues were there to tell us of our mistake but somehow we didn't pick any of them up.

For instance:

• Arriving at a shopping mall just after the official opening time to find everything still shut and complaining bitterly about how bad the Aussie attitude to customer service is.

• Arriving at a restaurant and apologising for being 15 minutes late for our table … when we were in fact 45 minutes early.

• Commenting to some people sitting next to us late one afternoon at the pool in Sanctuary Cove that it stays warmer far later here than down in Sydney.

•  Putting three successive sets of hotel bedside clocks 'right' because they are always an hour wrong!

•  Checking out of our last hotel at 6.30am. Why?

•  Turning on the TV at 6pm for the news and it never being on. Those   Aussies have NO regard for timekeeping at all!

…and best of all

• Assuming that the clock at the bottom of the screen on breakfast TV each morning is an hour slow for some reason!

Yup, it’s taken us four days to realise. So it’s official – there is now no brain activity going on whatsoever here, either individually or collectively. Take note any future employers!
