If you are looking for something to do to get away from the crowds of Orlando take a day to drive over to the Atlantic coast and up to Daytona Beach.  We headed over towards Titusville and then drove north on US 1.  As we got up towards New Smyrna Beach we were able to head over to A1A and ride along Atlantic Ave, which borders the ocean.  New Smyrna Beach is a quaint area with a part of it having a Key West feel.  We parked at a local beach parking area at the end of Flagler Avenue and walked the beach.  We then headed up US1 and had a delightful lunch at Pappa's Drive In.  Along the way, of course are beautiful homes, and condos.  As everyone probably knows, you can drive your car on the beach at Daytona Beach, which was an experience in itself.  Before 3:00 pm you have to pay $5.00 to drive your car on the beach.  After 3 it is $3.00, but as we headed down there wasn't anyone in the booth to take our fee- probably because it was a red flag day on the beach, raining and very windy.  It was fun and visions of Gidget movies came into my mind!  It seemed to be fairly deserted around the area with many places either closed because it is Sunday or just closed in general,  But, I can only imagine what it must be like ther during spring break.

We continued on up A1A to Ormand Beach, which made for a nice drive along the water.  We then headed on back to I-95 and back to Orlando in time for dinner at Pio Pio.  All in all it was a pleasant day away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando and makes for a nice day trip.
