Last weekend I went to the beach with Jen and 3 girls from her work, Lucina, Rosy and Carmen. We drove into Jalisco (the state next door). The scenery was incredible- its very lush and tropical looking and you cut through huge mountains on surprisingly good but windy roads, occasionally overtaken by an old bus which thinks it can go faster than you and which you promptly overtake the next time it stops. Spent a lot of time laughing at funny names of beaches and bridges (yes even the smallest bridges have names)- the best being Bridge Island of Christmas Bridge Tiger the Second Bridge with No Name Beach Iguanas Mouth and my favourite, where we were staying Beach of Mad Angels!

We stayed in an all inclusive resort for 50 pounds (2 nights) which was great value coz you could eat as much as you like and alcohol was also included hence Lucina, Carmen and Rosy rolling into the room early one evening completely battered from drinking tequilas all afternoon in the swimming pool (the pool had a bar in it- v cool)! The hotel also had its own private beach which was huge,as were the waves! We arrived on Friday and spent most of that day lazing round the pool, before eating and eating again (if the foods free you have to oblige) and watching a show in the evening. This involved the entertainment team dressed in different costumes dancing around to various songs, including YMCA, where there was an Indian wearing very little to cover himself whichthe girlsall enjoyed ;-p On Saturday we went on a boat trip to some beaches and saw the beach where the rich of Mexico stay- really beautiful.Jen continued the British reputation for being hardy whenshe asked if we could stop in the middle of the sea and swim- the Mexicans thought it was far too cold and only stayed in the water a few seconds while she happily dived off the boat and swam around. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach and in the evening went to the show which was Mexican dancing (very cool), we then went down to the beach where they had lit a bonfire and Mexicans of all ages, shapes and sizes were dancing around. They then had a limbo competition-have never seen anything like it. Imagine a huge line of people doing a sort of conga around a bonfire on the beach at night and then doing the limbo under a long stick. Little kids were just running underneath it, young girls bending backwards and touching the ground (and some guys too) fat women (proving surprisingly agile) limbo-ing away and even an old grandpa having a go- v amusing. We then went on to the disco where they had some English songs too- go chumba wumba! I spectated as the girls danced- Jen is gradually learning to dance Mexican stylie (although she has yet to master la banda stupid cowboy style dance) which is basically just stepping one foot and then the other and moving your hips from side to side whilst shrugging your shoulders in a (seductive?!) manner. Shocked several people at the bar by loudly asking for sex on the beach x4 ha ha. People here (at least the peoplewe know) dont seem to get drunk sowe dont drink a lot either in fact felt a bit tipsy after a few drinks so will be some sort of horrendous lightweight whenwe get back to England!

We travelled home on Sunday, (which was- shock horror- cloudy!) and after a reviving shower(Jen insisted, apparently I smelt) we went out with Fer (the brother) to the feria (the huge fair thing). We went to see some of the ballet folklrico for which the Colima uni is famous, and it was amazing. Although I was not enjoying the mens costumes which consisted of what looked like womens flowery knickers (that had seen better days) and were rather tight with only a bit of fur covering at the front and back. They wore shells round their ankles and helmet type things on their heads- these were quite funny- one looked like he had a pile of large rabbit droppings on his head and the rest looked like they had willies coming out of their foreheads! Was brilliant tho, despite this off-putting factor! Also saw the choir singing (very well)- the highlight beingJen's friend Hopey dressed as an Indian and him waving at us so felt like some sort of celebrity. We then went off to one of the bars to meet some peeps and dance un poquito. Fer, Jenand I were in stitches laughing at a very drunk guy dressed in lemon yellow baggy trousers to the knee and a (not quite matching) yellow and cream tie-dye t-shirt and black running shoes who was sitting actually on the bar. Every time a song came on he liked (which was most of the time) he cheered loudly and opened and closed his legs in time to the music- almost fell off my stool laughing! Then he proceeded to nick a litre bottle of beer from the bar and share it with everyone. He lost his ring and imploredJen aydame (help me) so had Fer andher ontheir hands and knees searching for his ring whichthey found and he promptly lost again. All good fun, and all in all a great weekend!
