Marine adventures: part two
From The Other Way Round in Kaiteriteri, New Zealand on Jan 13 '09
Abel Tasman national park is a massive rainforest area on the northern tip of the south island. It doesn't have any roads running through it so you can either tramp (hike) through it or kayak along the coastline (or if you're very rich, have a helicopter drop you off at your $10million beachside weekend retreat.) Given our recent attempt at canoeing we were up for the kayak option.
A water taxi dropped us off at the starting point which was 18 km away from our destination. Fortunately the prevailing wind was behind us which made life only a little easier, and also meant that we could pull the kayaks together and sail the last few kilometers home.

We had a few stops on the way to rest and take in the views (which were stunning). At points the swell got big enough for us to do a bit of surfing.
