Mike was really interested in visiting Chichicastenango, Chi chi. Years before Mike had visited a Church near San Cristobal de las Casas, in the city of San Juan Chamula in Mexico, about one year before the Chiapas uprising. He was struck by how interesting the mix of cultural traditions, Catholicism and Mayan ritual, were on such display at that church. Religion there seemed a mixture of Catholicism and Maya Ritual. The church was filled with Pine Needles.
So, Mike wanted to see what it would be like be in that atmosphere , link to atmosphere photo. And also wanted the group to have a Modern Guatemalan Indigenous experience. So, we planned on going to Chi Chi on Market Day.

Chaotic and Full vendors set up booths in a maze of, by the time we were there, tourist goods. But, there were glimpses of how the regular Guatemalans use the market to do there shopping. See the Turkey.
Also, we were able to see an internal fruit market. Where locals were shopping.
