We left the Loire Valley for the Coast of Normandy.  Along the way we stopped at a local store which is famous for it's biscuits and cookies.  They are a French shortbread cookie and are very tasty.  We purchased several bags each for around 3 Euros (cheap).  One unfortunate part of this stop was that there was only one restroom for the whole busload of us.  We spent a long time waiting in line but everyone made it with no accidents.  Continuing on our trip to Normandy we saw several windmills dotting the countryside.  It felt almost like we were in Holland.  Our first stop was at Pointe Du Hoc.  This is where the United States Army Rangers scaled the tall cliff walls to take out the German gun emplacements.  Looking out over the vast channel it is hard to believe that it was once full of our ships as far as the eye could see.  The damage that was done at Pointe Du Hoc is still evident today, nearly 65 years later.  The whole point is full of bomb craters from the bombing runs our Air Force conducted to try to take out the gun emplacements.  Some of the craters are 20 feet deep in places.  It is hard to imagine what the German troops that occupied this area went through during the bombing.  It must have been hell.  It poured when we were there and we were told that was exactly what the weather was like on the morning of the landing.  After touring this location we headed for Caan.  In Caan we toured the Normandy Invasion Museum which was very impressive.  It is a must see.  The museum puts on a great film that outlines the events leading up to D-Day.  The film was so good I bought the DVD.  After the museum we headed
