We haven't had computer access for a while.

Left Praiano on Thursday morning, quick trip to Pompeii.  Amazing.

Onto an Agriturismo in the Montecassino area.  It was a beautiful farm house with an unbelievable view of the countryside.  Lovely people, but our towels were the size of postage stamps, and we all flooded the bathrooms.

We had a wonderful tour of the Montecassino area which is where Jim's Dad was during the war.  Went to the Abbey, the Rapido River, the German cemetery, the Allied Cemetery and several other war monuments.  It was very moving and the reason for the whole trip.  Kay was a perfect guide and a lovely lady, if you're ever in the area, I would recommend her highly.

Left the Cassino area around 3 and drove to a hotel near Assisi.  After a good night's sleep and a wonderful shower with real towels, we headed to the town of Assisi.  We all loved it and decided it was our favorite city yet.  Clean, with a lot of pride of ownership and the whole area around the church of St. Francis is truly one of the most beautiful we've seen.

Left Assisi on Saturday afternoon and drove straight through to the Venice airport to return our car.  Adios to the Altea.  Jim  piloted for over 2600 km without a single hiccup.  He did a wonderful job.  We decided to splurge on a water taxi from the airport to the hotel and it was certainly worth the money.  A beautiful, fast, private ride right up to our canal.  We muscled our luggage about four blocks to our last apartment in the Accademia area of Venice.

Now that we found an internet cafe, I'll try to write more, but they won't let us upload pictures.  We leave on our cruise on Tuesday, so hopefully we'll get some access then.

Ciao

Wow, Jean, this is timely. Yesterday I was sitting on the sundeck of a beautiful beachfront home enjoying the 80 degree weather on the Jersey Shore. My friends and I were talking about our 2010 trip to Assisi/Umbria/Tuscany. My friends said they would like to add Venice to the visit, and this morning your blog was there when I opened up my e-mail. Whoa!! How timely is that?!?! I am sending your comments on to them to show how easy it is to go from Assisi to Venice. Thanks a million. Enjoy Veneto and cruising the lovely Adriatic Sea, the cleanest sea waters in the world! Let us know how beautiful Split is.
