Traveling to Colmar France

Traveling on back from Interlaken we are traveling through Basel then into France to go through the Alasce area.  Gram drove a lot today from Interlaken to Colmar, France.  This is a town that is from the 1200s (over 800 years old, or older).  This town was not bombed in WWII so the buildings that stand today are the ones that have stood for 800 years!  It is a beautiful place in the Alsace area of France (upper northeast corner).  It is a mixture of German/French.  Rare to see American tourists here, it is very popular for German tourists.  We took a tourist train around and then walked.  We went in two churches from the 1200's.  We saw a brillant picture of Mary and Jesus from the 1200s  - the colors were brillant.  It was stolen in WWII but found and returned.  This is also the town where Baldini (?) the man who designed the Statue of Liberty came from.

Volterre also stayed here.  This town had about 20+ martyrs from the French Resistance in WWII.

We met a German couple at a restaurant tonight and had a lovely conversation.  Tell us to tell you about what they shared with us regarding some issues going on in Germany - we don't hear this stuff in the US.

We are off to Ramstein tomorrow for our trip home.  We hear there are flights to BWI Wed. and Thurs. and McGuire (where our car is) Wed. but it is a C17 (net seats) so we are not trying that one.  I wanted to spend a day and go to Cologne Germany but I've been sick the last few days and Granddaddy's hip is hurting so we may just stay at Ramstein until we get a flight.

Can't believe these three weeks have gone by so quickly.  We have had a great time!
