On leaving Trout Point we had a long driving day around the western tip of Nova Scotia and then north. N.S. is like Ireland in looks and also in the fact that the major roads tend to be on the coast. We stopped at Truro near the Bay of Fundy in the late afternoon. Sorry to report that it is not really worth a stop unless, like us, you have just had enough driving for the day.

Truro is one of the biggest towns in N.S. We actually saw a traffic jam at 5 p.m., whereas, most of the time seeing 5 cars on the road would be typical. Truro is known for being the place where you can see the tides going in and out from the Bay of Fundy, which apparently has some of the highest tides in the world. The sudden in and out of the tides, called the tidal bore, is quite a show and people come from all around to see it. Alas, the day we were there it was scheduled for 12:10 a.m. so we did not see a thing.

We stayed at a charming but shabby Victorian mansion called the John Stanfield House. It has one of the nicest restaurants in Truro and the staff was extremely nice, like almost everyone in N.S. We did not eat dinner there but had a very nice breakfast included with the room.

We also had occasion, while in Truro to have a wee dram at The Red Bird Wine and Scotch Bar on the main street. Excellent bar with a zero fear factor and run by the nicest people. We left very early Friday morning, anxious to be on our way and see more of the coast .

By the way, you have to love McDonald's and their willingness to adapt to local cultures. See the picture.
