and school starts again... a month early...
From A year in Finland in Ristiina, Finland on Aug 10 '08
School started again last Monday and I have to say I'm not particularly happy with my schedule. I've already made some friends and everything but I'm finding it hard to stay busy. Most teachers don't recommend history, math, biology, psychology and stuff, so I didn't take them. But that means that the school day starts at around 10h00 and ends at like 14h30 or so. I think I'm going to take some piano lessons and practice at school during my spares since they have pianos everywhere in the school. I've also signed up for Finnish lessons for beginners but all those courses start in september so I'll have a month of doing nothing before something happens. I guess I can play tennis with my host family and stuff or study Finnish.
I went to my first rotary meeting yesterday and that was pretty fun. We drank coffee and ate cake and they talked about a "father son" project they had where they built canoes. Afterward we went out on the lake in the canoes and the rotarians said that I was very good at paddling.
This weekend, my host father said that we might go to the summer cottage and see the caveman paintings. That would be really cool. I just hope it'll be nice out because it has been raining proffusely eversince I got here.
My eldest host sister, Marjanna also said that there might be a possibility for me to assist some english lessons about Fininsh history and that would be really awesome. I hope the rotary will say its ok. In anycase, I'm going to go into scouts or something too so I'll have lots to do as soon as soon as syyskuu (september) comes along.
Weel thats it for now. I'll probably write again in about a week.
