When I crossed the Colorado State Line into Pagosa Springs on the 16th of July, I had purchased gas 12 times in 8 days, in 8 different states.
As promised, here's how those states stacked up, in terms of gas cost per US gallon:
Mexico, anyone?
Northeast, Maryland 8 July $3.98
Cumberland, Maryland 8 July $4.08
Charleston, West Virginia 8 July $4.09
Beaver Dam, Kentucky 9 July $3.91
Sikeston, Missouri 9 July $3.71
Batesville, Arkansas 10 July $3.95
Marshall, Texas 10 July $3.92
Seguin, Texas 14 July $3.89
Kerrville, Texas 14 July $3.99
Snyder, Texas 14 July $3.99
Santa Rosa, New Mexico 15 July $4.09
Pagosa Springs, Colorado 16 July $4.25
The US Gallon (USG) is a liquid measurement unit only used in the United States. Its relationship to the universally-used liter is as follows:
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liter
Now that you know that, you can compare the cost of gas in the rest of the world. I've collected some costs per liter in local currencies, then converted to USG, and then converted local currency to US dollars. Here we go around the world:
UK 23 July £1.18 liter = £4.46 per USG = $8.90 per US gallon
Belgium 14 July $9.40 per US gallon
France 14 July $8.95 per US gallon
Germany 14 July $9.27/USG
Italy 14 July $9.23/ USG
Netherlands 14 July $10.16/ USG
Canada 22 July Ca$1.33/liter = Ca$5.03/ USG = US$4.98
Mexico 15 July 6.92 Pesos/liter=26.19 Pesos/USG = $2.61/USG
Japan 15 July $6.40 per USG
Australia 24 July Aus$1.51/liter=Aus$5.72/USG = $5.49 /USG
So there you have it. Gas around the world.
