Feeling very proud at striking up a conversation with 2 (unusually quiet) Americans - Maya and Robin I summoned up the courage and asked if I could tag along on their day trip to Bruges, they said yes - that wasn' too hard now:

So again armed with our use-it map of Bruges we started on our journey. The train station was packed for a monday (turn out it was a hoilday-pentecost apparently) so had to stand the hour there (and back again) to Bruges.  Bruges is an amazing place with cobbled streets, stained glass windows more squares (there's loads it seems).

I'm really sorry if my shoe hit anyone!!

I climbed up the Belfry (automated now of course). 366 steps up (giving myself a good workout, and I thought that I would miss the gym). I wasn' wearing the most sensible of footwear - flip flop style Birkinstocks, so after mentioning this to Robin (Maya was too tired to clinb all the steps) my shoe promtly fell through one of the spiral steps and down towards the ground "Look there's someone's shoe"I hear; luckiy it hadn't gone very far and Robin ran down to get it. The viez was amazing -on a clear day you could see to London or Paris (I'm kidding)

We visited an art museum-one of the few that are open on a Monday AND a public holiday:

Saw sweets being made, gazed at choclate in the shape of breast and bums-perfect as a present for your father or brother, they seem to think. Robin who's mum is a lactose specialists thought that she would find it amusing so bought a pair (lol) I just think it will be a shame to eat. We sat in silence where the nuns used to leave and discovered a new instrument.

I would recommend going to Bruges for a few days when more things are open:
