So here I am out in the warm waters of the Carribean. Its pretty quite here in Cozumel cos it is low season. It rains everyday and always right at noon. Glad to know the hurricane is over at Baja California all the to west of Mexico and not in the east.
Cozumel was ravaged by a hurricane last year and I can still see remnants of its destuctive path.
Diving in a 500ft black abyss
Cozumel is an island south east of the all-famous Cancun. It boasts of a vast and beautiful barrier reef that matches the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Dive 1 SANTA ROSA WALL: I went for my first 2 dives today. Santa Rosa wall is basically a wall cliff with a vertical drop into a black abyss of 500 ft / 120 metres. It was really cool to have such a personal dive with the divemaster and I. We were basically drift diving in currents of about 4 knots and I have to say, you feel like superman flying thru the water with such strong currents. Water was warm so I swam in my skimpy little black speedos haha. Too much of a tight arse to buy shorts until i get to a cheaper part of mexico.
My highlight? 6 feet long Nurse Sharks! My divemaster asked me to come down and look thru a cavern. I came from above upside down and peeped below to find these 2 sharks and they gave me the biggest fright when they violent swam into my direction before scurrying away! AWESOME! I also swam through a few caves and managed to come out alive.
Felt really sick from the dive. Not sure if it was the nitrogen in my blood or the pressure at 90 ft underwater but god was I in pain at the surface.

Dive 2 TORMENTOS: This was a shallow reef dive. Not as great as the Great Barrier Reef, but I had an excellent time diving through holes and catching sight of moray eels and eventually found myself with the divemaster trying to catch lobsters. Had the fright again when one shot right out of the hole and right across my face. Its really strange but u can actually hear the lobster swim. It makes a cracking sound as it flutters its fin.
Got back to the surface and felt so absolutely sick from the dive. Passed out all afternoon and had lunch with a random new friend I made from South Africa, Anthony who left for London right after.
