peru.... simply fantastic! i was in a totally different culture which fascinated me. and the view of the mountains and valleys...sigh~

being in cusco, a city situated 3400m above sea level, left me breathless (literally). it used to be the capital of the incas and the city was built in the shape of a puma (one of the sacred animals of the incas). The city today is a mixture of inca architecture and the spanish colonial style.

the highlight of the trip was seeng machu picchu. it was absolutely .. amazing...it was like being in a lost city in the clouds...felt almost unreal. what i saw was absolutely beautiful.

on the opposite side of the Vilcanota River to Machu Picchu, is Putucusi.. a mountain 2600m above sea level. took me 2 hrs to reach it's summit and my legs ached badly over the next 2 days.

one of the best part of the trip was meeting many friendly people who shared the same excitement of travelling in this part of the world. many were solo travellers who had been travelling for weeks in south america. a few had just finished missionary work in lima...quite inspiring.

i tried a inca delicacy, cuy, aka roasted guinea pigs. yes...the big ones you find in pet shops...abt the size of my foot. ok, before you pick up the phone to call spca, let me explain why i had to try this dish. in the main cathedral of cusco, the painting of `the last supper' has cuy served as THE last supper. abit of local touch, they say. anyway, it's hard to appreciate the taste when you see the whole roasted animal on your plate. there was not much meat and the skin was rubbery. ok enough said, i think.

then there was the llamas and alpacas...sooooooo cute! i think i terrified them by trying to get really close to them. by the way, alpaca meet is like beef but less fat. (ok i can hear people picking up the phone now.... )

i would say this is one of my best trip so far. i hope those who have not visited peru will list it as a holiday destination in future.
