First day... in Charleston

We traveled in our extended Ford van with our 32' camper. last week we put a mattress in the back of the van because the dogs' pillows seemed pretty thin when driving over bumpy roads. The mattress mad a much more comfortable ride and kept the noise down as well. It also insulated the floor so it wasn't so hot.

We left home with our 2 greyhounds; Abagail, 11.5 years old, and Cody, 7.5 years old, and our 16 year old Carin terrier, Mac.  Abby has had some pretty severe health issues over the last few weeks and we have had her to the vet 5 of the previous 7 days. We expected that she would be ok on the trip, according to the doctors' recommendations. And overall she did well.

On Thursday night she didn't want to eat, which was very unusual for her. Then she didn't want water or even ice cubes (one of her favorite treats). I took her out for a walk late that night and she acted nornal.  Then at around 4am she made some noises. I came out of the bedroom to find her slid off her pillow. She couldn't get up on her own, so I helped her up.

Things were not good so we decided to find the local emergency vet clinic and drove her there.  Without going into the details, we decided to put Abby down that morning. It was difficult, but the best thing we could do for her.

The rest of the day was sad and very strange. She was a real life force, and we miss her presence.
