rainy day in Centro and Favela Tour
From Quincin & Yves' Trip to Brazil 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug 05 '07
Heavy rain all night and morning changed our original plan of going up to Sugarloaf Mountain. Instead, we booked a favela tour with Marcelo Armstrong and decided to go to Santa Teresa in the morning.
Bad decision to take the taxi to try to catch the street car up to Santa Teresa. Traffic in Copa and downtown is just like that of Central in hk, or maybe worse. Tooks us more than an hour to finally get to the banho station. By which time it was too late to go up to Santa Teresa. We had a "a kilo" lunch in downtown with all the white collars instead. It's pretty much self serve restaurant which you pay by weight of the food you put on your plate. It's a popular way of eating in Brazil.
Favela tour was amazing. We were recommend Marcelo Armstrong´s tour. The guide we had, Diuceo, was very informative. Situated up in the mountain with great view of the ocean, favela is ironically a community of less well-off Brazillians. The tour was an eye opener... we were taught about the background, life in favela, the gap between the rich and the poor, and we saw some great art produced by the locals.
We were gonna go out for dinner with our hosts but since Amanda was working till midnight we decided to just have some home cooking and watch a movie instead.
