I am working at night as a waitress at a beach bar, with a cool group of people.

i try to do the job best i can although i never done anything like that before. i enjoy laughing and talking with customer sand dancing and singing. i make it fun but it can get stressful when its busy. and unlike Australia theres no regulations, safety standards, codes of conduct etc, so i bite my tongue a lot at how laid back workers can be and some of the tasks we are asked to do and the way we waste water kills me and the way after i mop i am suppose to throw the chemicals down the drains outside, omgggggg.

im learning to stay calm and not be so up tight about things like ive taught to be in life. go with the flow, "hima sto kima" as they say in greek (roll with the waves).

But you meet interesting people and learn a lot. Practicing my Greek as well. Some customers are patient with me and we make a joke out of it others are not amused. I try not to take it to heart and what keeps me smiling is knowing what a valuable experience it is and knowing its not forever its short term so appreciate it.

Dimitri is the sexy bi sexual manager my age, Mia is the 19 year old Serbian beauty barbie doll about to study economics back home, shes also a fellow waitress who speaks perfect Greek and puts me to shame because its in my blood and i cant speak. Vasilis is a Greek originally from Russia but grandparents originally from Greece, he moved here when he was 9, and talks of what it was like living in a communist society there in Kazakhstan, that right the birth place of Borat, a movie Vasilis has surprisingly never seen, and probably shouldnt. He hates Greece and greek girls and raves on about Belgrade and the women there all the time but his really a big softy. I know him from talking on MSN. By chance he called me as I was planing to leave for Australia to see if I was in Thessaloniki I told him I had to go home and i wanted to stay but couldn't find work and he was kind enough to find me work here. Its crazy to think that all this came about from the internet. an amazing life experience.

There are others i haven't gotten to know so well yet. one young Greek girl maria who cant speak English very well and speaks too fast in Greek for me, is a little airy and self centered dressing every night like shes a movie star. im not too fond of her as she is selfish in her work, moves me out of the way even though im here doing my chores first so that she can rush out and take orders and get tips. I dun mind too much though, id rather be doing the chores sometimes than dealing with rude people. and tips are shared.

We work until about 5am. then go out to club or to eat. Greek bakery's sell pitas, sweet and savory. we order a feast after so many hours of work,  taking the scooter, sitting in deck chairs laid out across the deserted beaches and that time of the morning, watching the sunrise, across still waters, in paddle pop rainbows of pink yellow and blue. with the other peninsular across the water in the distance. Sometimes we eat crepes. and go to clubs for a bit to unwind, a bit o Coyote Ugly styles which amuses me.
