Plan for this morning was to go cycling along the cycle tracks among the dunes outside Provincetown. Drove up to the cycle hire shop in Provincetown to be told that because it was Carnival week all the bikes had been booked weeks, even months in advance. A quick phone call by the store assistant confirmed that the situation was the same at the other bike rental shops in the Provincetown area. Left the shop feeling very disappointed. As we left, realised that the beautiful weather we had woken up to had been replaced by some very dark clouds. Ten minutes later, to a soundtrack of booming thunder, the heavens opened. Suddenly seemed very fortunate that the bikes had all been booked.

As the monsoon continued, decided to go to the cinema instead, so drove to the Wellfleet Cinema to see Mama Mia, after lunch in the neighbouring Soda Bar (all very fifties). Will and Helen sang and danced along to all the songs. Will knows most of them by heart - Abba's Greates Hit's has been one of his most requested CD's for months.

By the time we came out of the theatre, the clouds had cleared, so we drove to Fort Hill and took a walk along the boardwalks through the Nausett salt marshes. Great light and great birdwatching.

And in the evening, because we'd already planned to go, we went to the Wellfleet Drive-in Cinema to see 'Space Chimps'. Picked up a pizza en-route and sat munching in the car as we watched. It was one of those drive-in's where you have a speaker on a post beside your parking space, that you can bring in through the window. The more modern alternative, which was also available, was to tune to the cinema FM station and listen on the car radio.

On the way home Will said he'd enjoyed Mama Mia more. Space Chimps was too scary !
