La Serena is a nice town. Not lots to do within the town other than a really pretty tranquil Japanese garden which is worth a visit.
There is also a shopping centre with cinema which shows English films (subtitled) which we hoped to go to but we missed the showing.
the recent discovery of a new planet
The main reason we went to La Serena was to go to the observatory. We wanted to go to the second largest observatory in the world but couldn´t get a reservation but luckily there are a few observatories in the area so we took a trip to Observatorio Mamalluca. It was really cool we saw the moon close up and looked at various constellations. We were told about the recent discovery of a new planet which has virtually the same atmosphere to the Earth!
