Our main purpose for visiting Hervey Bay was to visit family as they had moved to the town four years earlier - and we can certainly understand why! What a great little spot with everything a family could wish for. A little out of the way (4 hours north of Brisbane) for my liking - but they absolutely LOVE it and so do thousands of others. The population has doubled from 25,000 to 50,000 in four years!
We spent a lot of time catching up with the family, but managed to do some biking on the foreshore, have coffee on the beach and take a fantastic trip to Fraser Island.

Fraser Island is an awesome place and we would have liked to stay longer. The sand roads have to be seen to be believed and the drive along the beach with a dozen other 4wd vehicles including buses is very unique. We visited all the usual tourist stops very quickly, spent $75 on a burger lunch for 5! and managed to avoid getting stuck in the sand so that we made the return ferry with 2 minutes to spare. Definately a place to re-visit sometime in the future.
