Bariloche
From much better than work...´07 / ´08 in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina on Apr 13 '08
Bariloche eh?? Well it has its merits. Its a ski town which out of season is a little odd. It also has a penchant for Swiss architecture which having travelled at length through South America it is unsurprisingly a surprise to be confronted by a timber chalet with all the obligatory twiddly bits. Take note by the way these are the technical expressions we architects use for such details. See this blog is educational after all. there you were skiving at work thinking that you were wasting time but in reality its an education.
Okay where was I?? Oh yes, well there is plenty of walking, climbing and generally bracing outdoor pursuits to be undertaken. The timing was perfect as all the leaves were on the turn giving the landscape a rather wonderful rusty highlights. Spectacular to be honest. Trundled up some mountain the name of which elludes me at time of going to press but it was a delight. Excited by the Patogonian beauty I decided I wanted more venturing further south to the charms of El Bolson.
Ha!! Forgot to mention!! Young Dylan broke his foot...dancing. No he didn't fall over. No he didn't hit anything. He broke it in the act of dancing. Quite what bone shattering stresses that man generates while he girates I really couldn't say. What I can say is that my Spanish met its waterloo. As translator I fared badly. Argie doctors are almost incomprehensible and I felt very useless. Eventually of course I got the gist that poor Dylan won't be walking for quite a while. Having run around town for all the materials (its DIY here a bit. Hospitals don't carry stuff so you need to nip out from your sick bed to purchase stuff. )Luckily for Dylan that was my task. The lady in the supplies shop was lovely enough to say how good my spanish was which was perhaps misguided but a welcome top up for my confidence after its shakey start to the day trying to translate Doctorese. Back again to hospital and a big cast attached allows the copperheaded rogue some protection. But hang on a mo...no crutches. Okay so Norm's task again is to shop for the most unlikely things. As you can see I eventually met with success. Still, not ideal for young Dylan to be in hiking territory with a broken foot. Quelle domage as they don't say in Argentina.
