Mexico City´s Hamptons

So we headed outside of the city at about 4 p.m. Friday, a perfect time to hit rush hour traffic.  We were headed to Valle de Bravo, which is a valley with a lake and mountains surrounding it.  When I realized all of the gringos were staying at the Avandaro, a country club resort, I cancelled my reservations in town and joined them.

Besides going for a run, I spent time wandering the town with two of Ryan´s friends from law school, Sophie and Jen.  It seems that everyday the rain starts pouring down at about 3 p.m.  After spending the morning at the pool before it starts raining, we decided to go shopping.  Of course, it started raining, but I sought refuge in Cafe Toulouis-Lantrec, which had great mexican crepes.  Sophie and I then saw the zocalo (town center) before we turned around and tried to catch up with Jen.  Of course, when we found Jen, it started raining hard again.  Jen reminded us that she wanted to buy a mirror and some candleholders she saw earlier so we started to trudge down the street in this torrential downpour.  I figured it would be a good test for my backpack and jacket.  Apparently, applying leather wax to my shoes kept my feet dry.  By the time we got back to the hotel, we had five minutes to change and make it to the cocktail reception, held the day before the wedding.  Our good friend, Herredura, a brand of tequila, quickly got the best of the us and the other americans.  We had a great time that night getting to know each other as well some of Alex´s friends from Mexico, including Arturo.   It quickly became apparent to the gringas that I was jealous of Arturo´s mexican accent, style, and general latino cool, but hey who´s not jealous of the latinos.
