We took a flight from San Cristobal to Mexico City. Originally we were planning on getting a bus but it turned out the flights were more or less the same price and 16 hours quicker!
We decided to try out the Metro to get to our hotel from the airport. A very interesting journey! Lots of characters on the trains trying to earn a bit of money busking and doing very wierd activites. One guy even rolled out a blanket full of broken glass and walked accross in in the middle of the carriage!

We stayed at the Hotel Isabel, in the Isabel Catolica area. The area is pretty central, just a couple of blocks form the main Plaza. The hotel was nice with big, clean rooms although not a lively as we were expecting.
We walked to Garibaldi Plaza. A guy we had met previously told us it was a nice place t sit out with a beer. Maybe we went at the wrong time of day...? there were lots of smartly dressed musicians around but not much else and no nice bars to get a beer that we could see. We went into one bar that had an offer on and it was like stepping back into the 50s. Pretty funny mind. The tables and chairs were covered in hideous curtain type material and there were big plastic flowers everywhere. Apparently there is live music there most nights. I imagine that would be an experience!

The City centre itself is really impressive. The buildings are magnificent and there is a reall bustling feeling around the Plazas. I taxis were all cool little green and white Beatles which were everywhere!
We visted the Anthroplolgy Museum which was really impressive. It is set around a courtyard with a huge fountain in the middle. There are many different rooms in the museum, each one detailing a different period of Mexican History. We were amazed at how many artifacts had survived and what good condition they were in. Definitely recommend a trip here.

Another day we did a tour to Teotihuacan, the huge pyramids about an hour out of town. the tour first took us to some ruins within the city. Our guide was fantastic and really enthusiatic about Mexican History which made everything that much more interesting. We also stopped a a place where the main churches for the city are. There are 6 or 7 here in total and all of them very ornate.
Teotihuacan itself was great. The pyramids are huge (one being 45m and the other 65m tall). We climbed both and the views at the top were lovely. The site itself is not actually that big so it only takes a couple of hours to see it properly.

We went out in a few diffent areas of the city at night. The area around Insurgents was the area we found to have most bars and restaurants and Palenco is definitely the area where the rich people go - although we did stumble accross a really cosy little bar there that wasn't too pricy!
Our last night was spent in the bar of Hostel Amigo (next to our hotel). The barman there is crazy and goes round pouring tequilla down everyones' throats (he won't take no for a answer). Good fun.
