Bevagna is a lovely town pretty close to Montefalco. It is where St Francis is said to have preached to the birds!! We have spent a bit of time there lately, and really enjoyed it and the environs. The town has a lovely °feel° with lots of very old buildings and medieval streets. The shops and people are very nice too. It is a bit bigger than Montefalco and we have very much enjoyed just visiting it and mooching about there. We discovered this Borgia Palace just down the road. It was built in the 1700s and converted to a monastry and now is being converted to appartments.

We have really enjoyed just aimlessly getting in the car and taking off down a road to see what is there. It seems a different approach to doing the touristy thing of visiting all the sights, but it is really fun. We discover real back woods supermarkets and shops and have fun buying provisions there and getting the real local produce. We have also discovered a little °lake° (really a big pond) just down the road and that was not on any maps. It even had a tortise in it!!

Mostly these back roads are not very busy and poddelling along at a slow pace, just soaking up the tranquility is really fun.
