We arrived at the Indiana Dunes Campground around what we thought was 9:30. It was dark, but the campgrounds were designed that there were little “driveways” for each camp site, so it was easy to find which one was empty. It was pretty cool – up a few stairs, a fire pit already set up as well as a picnic table and even ground cloths for tents. Set up was fairly easy once we realized everything was color coded. Dinner was…interesting; we just cracked open South Beach wraps, a bottle of wine from my wedding shower that Danni had given us to enjoy on our first night camping, and a box of chocolate from Tab in Germany. We were ready to head to bed around 11…and then we realized that we’d crossed time zones, so it was actually only 10. It became a lot easier to set the alarm for 6 – Dove was determined to make it to the summit of Mt. Baldy, the highest sand dune at the park in the morning.

BTW, we love our tent. Never again will we cheap out on tents. Caleba rocks.

Day 3

Believe it or not, despite messing up setting the alarm so it never went off, Josh got us both up at 6:12 – not bad for someone who typically needs extensive prodding to get out of bed in the morning. We were packed and sort of clean by about 7:30 (BTW Josh is now sporting his Utilikilt, breaking it in for the Playa) and got ready for our hike. It was pretty short, but a great view from the top. We spent about an hour hiking and walking along the Lake Michigan shore. Back on the road around 9, we headed off to Galena, IL. Of course, we had to make another stop at WalMart to get some food, bug spray, and other random junk. Yay. But we got to redecorate Bonnie in the process and resituate our supplies. BTW Kim, we’re trying out the whole ice in the water jug in the cooler thing to see what happens. We’ll keep you posted.
