The easiest way to go to Salento if traveling with a lot of people is public transportation. We took a bus from Armenia and about an hour later arrived to Salento. I’m not sure how much higher Salento is in comparison with Armenia, but it gets cold and real soon getting there. The town itself is pretty small, good to go to a small restaurant and have real food from the area. The main reason we went to Salento is because we wanted to visit the ‘Cocora National Park’. This park has the national tree, which is a very unique tree with the shape of a palm, like the ones you see when visiting the caribean, but much taller. It’s also unique, because they are in the middle of Colombia and not on the beach. Cocora also has big production of trout, which I love. One of my favorite dishes is fried trout served with fried green plantains. Oh baby is good.

To get there, one must ride a jeep ‘willies’, a very unique suv created by the U.S Army for WW2 and that now is used as the main way of transportation in the coffee region of Colombia. Once in Cocora, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. We went horseback riding for about an hour, and couldn’t get enough of how beautiful this area is. We also noticed a lot of tourists from several parts of the world: Germany, England among others.
