chilling, canyoning and being puzzled in the "next queenstown"

from the railtrail we headed off to wanaka - another holiday town on a lake surrounded by snowcapped mountains.  a bit more chilled out than queenstown, it does'nt go in for such a hard sell on the adventure activities and generally feels more relaxed - possibly due to all the people lounging on the lakeshore right in town- well it is 28 degrees in the shade.

on the way to wanaka we picked some cherries from a farm with a grumpy lady - she thought she was being really nice bending her rule of at least 1 kilo of cherries per person and then told us off for not picking them with the stalks attached.. the cherried are well nice though, now we just have to think of diofferent ways to eat them.  also played a bit more mini golf in cromwell - i (alex girl) am now winning 5-0.  the boy is not pleased

today we went canyoning which was lots of fun.  liots of abseling, sliding and jumping off high rocks  and no bad injuries (unlike last time we went - in france - when i twisted both ankles and broke a bone in my foot and the boy twisted one ankle).  just a random dead leg for me.  we spent about 4 hours in the canyon and then had lunched at the bottom - it felt luxury because i had 5 different ingredients in my sandwich - see how i have been deprived since we got to an expensive country.  no piccies of canyonong though - as we are too tight to pay other people to take our photo.

we are off to mount aspiring national park tomorrow - hopefully we'll stay at the aspiring hut and do some long day walks to looka t glaciers - dead leg dependant.
