Chiclayo and Jaen
From Peru in Chiclayo, Peru on Jun 11 '07
After a 4 hour bus ride we got to Chiclayo, a small and pleasant town up north. This was purely a stopover to get to Ecuador and we had no high expectations. This is also a stopover town for people travelling northeast to Chachapoyas (and the famous Kuelap ruins), but this would be another 15 hour journey, so we decided not to go that way.
The people in Chiclayo were extremey friendly and were eager to get to know us and speak english.
The next day we got up early and took a 10am bus to Jean, from where we would continue north towards Ecuador. The journey took forever as it continuously stopped along the way to pick up and drop off passengers. We also had a flat tire, but the driver decided to keep going for another hour or two before having it fixed. By the time we got to Jean, there were no more buses or collectivos to take us further to San Ignacio, so we were stuck that night (and that is exactly how it felt as Jaen is not a very nice place to stay the night).
