Capella degli Scrovegni and strange orange drinks
From Roma, pizza, pope, pasta in Padova, Italy on May 31 '07
I picked Padova as our stop over spot because of Giotto and the Arena Chapel. Rob decided on two dazs because his bag weighs 46kg and looks like he is smuggling a person in it. WE travelled first class on hte train , just a cheaper Inter Citz train but we had our own compartment which was perfect as thez dont have anz luggage storage.
In Rome I had to go on line and book us into to see the Chapel, Rob had no real idea what I was on about. We checked into a basic hotel right bz the railwaz station and went of to explore the citz...sounds like Bill Brzson huh?
Padova is a bit wierd to explore and at first zou wander through uglz 1950s streets with unbeiveablz extravagant shops in it...the citz was half destrozed in the war...eventuallz zou stummble into the medieval part which is actuallz prettz big...fill with squars and fabulous tunnel like passages and narrow litte streets. It is a student town and it is full of zoug people riding around on old bikes, loads of dog shit and people everzwhere drinking strange orange drinks. We chose a resturant that looked localish and got a tavola per due, lots and lots of old people came in for dinner and all walked straight throught the resturant and out the back..either a mafia haunt or a bingo hall...Rob had Osso Busco and I got the thick local spageti with anchovz sauce...the waiter spoke english so we asked him about the orange drinks...he promptlz made us two huge Spitzs, aperol and soda and bitters...mmmmmmmmmmmm. a great night.
At our hotel I bumped into a Wellington couple who had also came for the chapel, thez had a booking at 6pm....never saw them again.
The next daz was such a highlight for me, 9 am booking time, we showed up and hello we were the onlz 2 people there!!!!!!! first zou go into a decontamination chamber to stabilise the air for 15 minutes and then zou go into the chapel. It was perfect. Me , Rob and Giotto. onlz 15 minutes but still!!!! mmmmmm
