Arenal Volcano action!
From Dora the Explorer (Aka Lin) Travels the World! in Fortuna, Costa Rica on May 09 '07
As a last minute addition to our trip, Rach and I had decided to extend our layover in Costa Rica for 5 days. I must admit that i did not have the energy upon arrival to be here, but i am glad we came. Everyone told us to land in San Jose and get the heck out the same day. But we had no idea where to go! Most recommended going to the Arenal volcano and so within 30 minutes of landing in Costa Rica we were on a bus to Fortuna.
The actual town of Arenal is 60 km away from the volcano, therefore Fortuna is the closest. We met some locals who showed us around a bit. We jumped off rocks at the local waterhole. We went multiple times to the hot springs. Imagine a flowing river that is steaming! It was incredible i have never seen anything like it. Plus we got to slip and slide on part of it!!! Granted i have some bumps, bruises and scrapes from rolling over waterfalls but thats the fun right!?!
The best part of the trip was the ziplining! We got to do 11 ziplines or canopies as they are called. At one point our guide let me go with him upside down. I felt like i was flying over the rainforest! Wind in my face...free as a bird! Incredible!!! I would love to do it again sometime!
As for the town of Fortuna....we were more than ready to leave. Costa Rican guys, in our experience, were very sleezy. Annoying actually. Heck i am not one to get bothered easily but I was ready to go to San Jose. We stayed at Costa Rica Backpackers in San Jose which has a great scene, good food, fun people, and a pool that i sat next to all day today! Anyways, its off to the airport. At last my trip comes to an end. I will right my final comments upon return to California. Love you all.
