We took our time getting out of Vancouver so didn’t make it very far down the road before choosing to camp for the night. We wandered into a Provincial Park called Silver Lake, not knowing exactly what to expect from Canadian campsites. It turned out to be a nice little spot, complete with an impressive forest that our site backed up to. It also included a tree at our site which had been used by a bear as a scratching post. I tried to convince Debbie that it was just the natural shedding of the bark by the cedar tree, but when the ranger came by and was questioned by my fearless companion, he undid all my good work by saying “Oh, that’s just from a bear.” At least he gave us some firewood. Rat bastard.
