So Max came up for the weekend and kept me company since almost all of the students in my program were in different countries. We spent all of Saturday walking around Madrid, through Parque del Buen Retiro, stopping for food at cafes, and saw a movie in Spanish. We were both pretty tired and a movie sounded like a good idea. We go to a little theater by my apartment and randomly pick one whose title I recognized (had no idea what it was about). It was called "Y tu, quien eres?" and was a Spanish film. We go into the theater and it's not pretty empty, just a handful of older couples. The movie starts and we realize it's about an old man getting Alzheimers and his granddaughter taking care of him. It's a sad subject, but the acting and filming was soo horrible we were laughing most of the time (quietly because others were crying). Max ended up falling asleep. I was surprised at how much I understood. I almost forgot I was watching it in Spanish! So after the bad movie, we ate Thai food for dinner, which was excellent, and a nice change from the usual Spanish cuisine. Sunday we went to Faunia which is basically a zoo divided by ecosystems. (like the arctic, nightlife, jungle etc) It was pretty cool, and it made me feel like a little kid. We spent all day there and I said goodbye to him at the bus station around 6pm. Overall, a really fun, relaxing weekend!
