To satisfy the history buff in us, we scheduled a stop in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This was the site of abolitionist John Brown’s raid on the U.S. Armory and was an important spot during the Civil War (it changed hands between North and South 8 times). It’s now a little more peaceful—the place was teeming with retirees traveling through on big tour buses.
After all of our hiking, we also got a much-needed shower and place to stay at the Harpers Ferry hostel. We crossed paths with some interesting characters who were hiking the Appalachian Trail, which planted some seeds for the next Murray sister adventure. So who knows…next summer we might be found walking from Maine to Georgia!
