The Twin Towers

When you reach Kuala Lumpur the thing that truly sticks out above anything else is the Petronas Twin Towers.  At first sighting we stood there staring at them for what must have been fifteen minutes at least.

We had checked in to our worst hostel yet, in China Town, and so spent as much time outside as we could.  Kuala Lumpur is a strange city - and I mean that in the nicest sense.  Of all the cities that we've seen so far on our travels (and there's been a few) this one really is east meets west.  The area in which we were staying was quite run down, and looked like any other developing city, and yet you turn a corner and head towards the Golder Triangle area and suddenly there's tourists and expats everywhere, and bars, restaurants and office buildings, that wouldn't look out of place in Europe, including the Petronas Towers (you might hear about these alot - they were awesome!).

We decided that we had to visit the Towers and so did some research and found that free tickets are issued on a first-come first-served basis at 8am each morning, and that you had to be there early to get them as they go pretty fast.  We skipped it on the Sunday, thinking that it might be too busy, and so on the Monday morning we woke up extremely early and headed over there, arriving at 7:30am to be sure to get a ticket.  We ran to the ticket office full of enthusiasm only to find that it was closed on Mondays! We couldn't believe our bad luck.  Feeling a little dejected especially as we were due to leave the following day, we made our way to the Sky Tower instead for views over the city.  We were told that the views are better from the Sky Tower anyway, but that did little to console us.
