Firstly i must say that this is an old blog entry as i left it unfinished and behind in edinburgh. things have been and continue to be busy...but in all around great ways! it's just so hard to take time out of traveling to sit in an internet cafe for a couple hours. but alas...i have finally made it and can update you about things from a couple weeks ago...oh well! i have also had some trouble with blogging (which i will later speak about) and have lost a two page entry...still quite upset about it. i hope i'll be able to get hold of it (the format changed from a one computer to my usb and now it is stuck somewhere.... so forgive the lateness and lack of entries but i'm really tryin. but for now...here's some of the past: Fringey or fringed out? The last couple of weeks have been consistently and expectedly busy. Even with only two shows a day I am completely knackerd (I’m beginning implement the use of local dialect) . The two shows are Visualise, the "science" show which continues to frustrate me everyday, and another amazing kids show called Billy and the Bwca(pronounced booka). Although, Jeremy and I have now gone through visualise, step by step, making notes on how to improve it.... Jeremy has actually been hired as a lighting designer, and we’re both hoping to give them our input and help them get some sort of direction in the show. If I wasn’t so fresh out of school I would be more inclined to ask for a job as their director. Another problem is that the show needs so much reworking in my mind, and they are heading off on a european tour in a month. The show does have the potential to be great for kids, but right now it is just painful at (many) times. The Bwca show I absotulely love . Adorable and creative...it's a fairy tale with catchy songs and a good bit of humor. Unfortunately the show is early in the morning and means that for the past two weeks I have had no chance for a lie-in (aka…sleeping in). And the fringe life is late night…and by late…I mean…3-4-perhaps even 5am arrival to one’s bed. Early mornings just do not fit into the plan. And during the my free time I’ve managed to see a good deal of theatre, music, dance, and any other sort of entertainment you can imagine. Since I have basically just been spending time walking around, working, seeing shows and um…well…pubbing I figure I should share a few interesting tidbits about shows I’ve seen. Some aewsome…some…quite awful (I’ll leave those parts out) I spoke of seeing the Canterbury Rap Tales…which was alright but unfortunately not as great as we’d hoped. But, I did see a fantastic interpretation of Macbeth. There were lines of fire, torches, old motorcycles, stilts...and as you can imagine, heavily symbolism. pretty sweet. another incredible show was called Traces and was a dance performance by past members of cirque du soleil (and all around my age! wow...i feel unaccomplished). they did the craziest acrobatic things you can imagine...like doing multiple flips...on top of one anothers shoulders...they literally jumped through hoops to impress. i enjoyed it so much i actually went another time when my parents came to share in the fringe fun! one more highlight was a music performance called The Table. ohhh what to expect with a title as such?? well...music on a table of course. but not just any table...this thing was somehow outfitted to make distinctive, specific musical sounds by touch. there were even strings on part of it to enable guitar and bass sounds. run a bow along the side of the table...you had a voilin or cello. tap it...you have a drum. possibilities were endless for the four guys who sat around each side of this table and made the most incredible sounds you can imagine. african drum beats, hard rock and curiously lulling music made for one of the most entrancing shows i've seen in while. my parents also joined me on this one...and we all just looked at each other awestruck. these guys are gonna go far...just trust me on this one... i can’t believe that it’s almost time to take down everything that creates our quaint little converted-church theater. We’ll untape, unscrew, untie, de-rig, breakdown and repack everything we’ve shoved in and out of the creatively named "Venue 13" over the past month and get it ready for departure…this includes ourselves. "Derigging" our room will be another world of fun. i have had such an incredible time here...learning so much about theatre and myself. i'm really going to miss all my new friends i've made and can't believe i'm not headed back to hamilton with mel and romina. but i am incredibly excited for more adventure that lies ahead. it'll be the real travel time soon! excited to go to places i've never been...Next stop: Ireland! Get out your green shirts, grab a pint and celebrate to that! talk to ya soon bloggies.
