We nipped back to Quito to give it a better chance to impress us before heading sarf. Luckily the hostel we were in the first time was full and we had to stay at one round the corner which was lovely and cheaper. Apart from the seriously steep hill you need to climb to get to it El Bambo is excellent, the room was lovely, the kitchen is great the roof terrace is beautiful and it´s cheap. Perfect.
In Quito we were compelled to visit Mitad del Mundo (the centre of the world)at the equator. We were eager and ready to be impressed, but were fairly disappointed to be charged $2 to see a line and a monument that the French put in the wrong place. 200m down the road is the real equatorial line, which the pre-colombian indians had placed some 3,000 years ago. It was great - water tricks, egg tricks, blow dart challenges, shrunken heads and a certificate.

We also went up a 4,100m mountain in a cable car (that´s 3x the height of Ben Nevis). The mountain is situated to the west of Quito and overlooking the city. We tried out an oxygen bar for the first time when we were at the top, but it won´t catch on. And it smelt funny.
So we hit the fucking road. Yeah.
