The main attractions of the city were the temples. Darbar Marg Square has numerous temples some 500-600 years old. Swayambhonath Temple, which is a 2000 years old buddhist temple is worth seeing. It is situated at hight altitude where stairs can lead you. You can have a good view of the city from there too. There were many more temples around. The streets and markets are flooded with people and there is much activity going on. One can see two kinds of faces: Aryans and Mongoloid. For foreigners there is a bazaar called Thamel where you can buy handicraft and statues. Cashmere made stuff is worth purchasing. You can greet locals by saying "Namaste" and for thank you, "Dhanewar". People are freindly. On 5th Dec.
